Ed Kashi, Rebas Mala Muhammad Amin eating dinner with his family. He lost his mother during the Anfal campaign and now lives with his father, who is old and does not work. Rebas doesnt go to school because he must take care of himself and his father to provide food. For work, Rebas gathers scraps in his settlement and then tries to resell them. Here they eat a dinner of rice, which neighbors provided to them, in the small store room that they rent out to live in. Benislawa is a settlement near Arbil, northern Iraq that was originally created in the late 1970s to accomodate Kurds who were displaced from Kirkuk as part of Saddam Husseins program of Arabization. Local residents are mostly unemployed and living in abject conditions. |
